Knowledge and experience

Meet Captain Peter Moorhead

Captain Moorhead’s boating life started more than 50 years ago as he began sailing with his father on the “Lapworth” – designed Gladiator 24′ on San Francisco Bay in 1965.

“I began teaching sailing back in the 1980s after college, worked around boats and a boatyard, at Pete’s Harbor by coincidence! I got my first Coast Guard License in 1983. This was followed by a quick stint at Lake Tahoe captaining a tour boat, then moving on to run charter boats as Captain for the Moorings, Tortola BVI. Upon returning to the United States, I worked on tugboats as an Engineer and deckhand seeing the workings of our commercial bay, with waterfront construction, dredging, pile driving, and doing ship assist work. I moved on from tug work to San Francisco- South Beach Harbor and then Sausalito- Marina Plaza as Harbormaster for 15 years in the recreational boating industry. I returned to the Bay full time as a Captain, Instructor, and Yacht Manager since 2010. I have owned both wood – a 1922 Falmouth Oyster Gaff cutter and fiberglass, and have experience inspecting, managing, and operating both power and sail vessels up to 75’ locally and abroad.

I pride myself in keeping my technical skills and knowledge up to date with the latest boat building standards. I look forward to providing a full range for your survey needs – in a timely fashion, with professional standards, and at competitive pricing. I’m still out on the bay a lot – teaching, sailing, enjoying the beauty of the water and the Golden Gate!” My photos on San Francisco Bay.
